The Complications
Theodore sits about 10 miles from our shop in Mobile, which is close enough that a tech can get out there without burning half the morning on the road, but it still means the job gets scheduled around the drive, not around a depot sitting around the corner. That matters when a spring lets go on a Saturday - we're not pretending to have a branch in Theodore, we're running a truck out from Mobile, and the call works best when you can tell us what's happening (door won't open, loud bang, cable hanging) before the truck leaves.
The other complication is the housing stock itself. Homes in this part of our service area were mostly built around 1988, which puts Theodore squarely in the 1980s-90s wave that covers most of the thirteen named areas we work, from Tillmans Corner to Semmes. That generation of door hardware is different from what you'd find on a house built in the 1960s closer to Mobile's older core - extension springs instead of torsion in a lot of cases, lighter steel sections, openers that have usually already been swapped out once by now. A tech who doesn't know which era he's walking into is guessing at the fault before he opens the panel.
